An online serious game for decision-making on food-water-energy nexus policy

Food-water-energy nexus is a complex problem characterized by multiple alternatives, conflicting objectives, and uncertainties about key drivers like climate change, urbanization, population growth. Serious games are becoming popular means to support decision-makers who responsible for the management of urban food, water, energy systems. However, effectiveness these in improving decision-making quality their outcomes remains low. Therefore, this paper, we developed serious game, namely S.N.O.G., which offers safe environment where impacts decisions may be tested rated. Methodologically, S.N.O.G. based on combination multi-objective optimization programing game theory. Spatial representation, forecast, automatic feedback, ease information communication, transparency, modification add competence S.N.O.G.’s application into effective food-water-energy nexus. The was smart-eco district Netherlands balanced food production, water generation goal. By using an activity theory-based model, evaluated mapped how contributes advancement decision-making. Our research shows helped participants identify indicate integrated resource management, can strengthen learning policy outcomes.
